In the Geologist’s Day, that marks the next day May 6, the Laboratório da Paisagem, the Portuguese Association of Geologists and the Portuguese Geological Society, will promote the initiative “Discover the world of the Geologist: Field Outing in Penha Mountain”.On Geologist’s Day, which marks next May 6, the Landscape Lab, the Portuguese Association of Geologists and the Geological Society of Portugal, will promote the initiative “Discover the world of the Geologist: Field Trip to Penha Mountain”.
The activity, starting at 10am and meeting point at the Penha Sanctuary, will consist of a walk through the “lung” of Guimarães to address the importance of Geology and Geological Resources in our society, their applications and sustainable ways of using them. During the walk, the participants will have the opportunity to observe the several granite geoforms present in Penha Mountain and to know how these resources have been used in the region since the past until nowadays. The tour will have an emphasis on the Geological Heritage of the area and how these formations should be preserved in conservation.
Participation in the activity is free of charge, but pre-registration is required until May 4 through the following link.
The Geologist’s Day was established in Portugal in 2014 in order to increase the visibility of geology and its importance in today’s society.
