Guimarães hosted over two days (June 28 and 29), the 28 municipalities that participated in the four networks of the first edition of the National Initiative Circular Cities (InC2), of the Directorate-General of the Territory.
On June 28 and 29, the final meeting of InC2 took place in the Laboratório da Paisagem. Organized by the Municipality of Guimarães, Laboratório da Paisagem and Direção Geral do Território, the final results of the Circular City Networks, namely CApt2, RurbanLink, R2CS and CircularNet, were made public during the final meeting.
The closing session took place in the small auditorium of the Vila Flor Cultural Center, and was attended by the Mayor of Guimarães, Domingos Bragança, and the Secretary of State for Regional Development, Isabel Ferreira. The mayor highlighted, in his speech, the work done by Guimarães in the theme of environmental sustainability since 2013, listing several projects that have strengthened the municipality’s path, leading to a new candidacy of Guimarães to European Green Capital and the selection of Guimarães as one of the 100 European cities committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
On the first day of the event, Wednesday, June 28th, participants had the opportunity to learn about the work developed by the Landscape Lab, visited the Pedagogical Vegetable Garden and internally analyze the results of the Networks. The next day, during the morning, they made parallel visits to the Center for Waste Recovery, Fibrenamics, PIEP and DoneLab.
Remember that the Laboratory of the Landscape, led the network CApt2, which proposes solutions to increase water efficiency and water reuse, such as the project to use water from municipal swimming pools for cleaning streets. The Municipality of Guimarães participated in RurbanLink, where an Action Plan was developed for the implementation of a digital platform that aggregates and provides information to producers, processors and consumers of waste, with a view to the collection and recovery of waste, in order to enhance synergies between the different actors in the municipality.
