The jury once again praises the management of the Monte Latito garden and highlights the expansion of areas and facilities in the City Park.
The Jardim do Monte Latito – which renewed the award given in the previous two years – and the Parque da Cidade – for the first time – were awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, as a result of a successful application by the Municipality of Guimarães and the Landscape Laboratory.
In its justification, the international jury once again praised the management of the Monte Latito Garden in Guimarães, highlighting the cleanliness and care taken in all areas of this green space, a reflection of the daily and continuous work that makes it possible to welcome thousands of visitors every year.
The City Park, awarded for the first time, was highlighted for the wide range of areas and facilities available to visitors. The jury also highlighted the management of the City Park, which combines cleaning actions with measures and projects to conserve and promote biodiversity.
For Sofia Ferreira, Environment Councillor for the Municipality of Guimarães, “the double award of the Green Flag Award reinforces the municipality’s commitment to sustainability, environmental preservation and the management of quality green spaces for the community”. The councillor also highlights “the excellence of the cooperative work that allows technicians and researchers to be involved in the management of these spaces”.
The Green Flag award, which was first given in 1997, is an international accreditation program that recognizes and rewards parks and green spaces around the world for their management.
