The technical training session titled “Approaches to Controlling Invasive Plants – The Case of Cortaderia selloana and Pennisetum villosum” took place last Wednesday, May 21st. The initiative was jointly organized by the Laboratório da Paisagem, the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of Ave, and the LIFE Stop Cortaderia project.
The session brought together technicians, professionals, and interested participants, with the main objective of strengthening knowledge and sharing best practices in the management of invasive alien species.
In a highly interactive setting between trainers and participants, effective control methods for these two species—both of which are spreading across the territory and threatening ecosystem balance and landscape integrity—were discussed. The session highlighted the importance of an integrated approach that combines fieldwork, ongoing monitoring, and community awareness.
More than just a theoretical training, this session served as a dynamic space for sharing experiences, challenges, and practical solutions adapted to the local reality. It was the first in a series of technical training sessions that Laboratório da Paisagem aims to implement, reinforcing its strong commitment to continuous capacity building as a key tool for biodiversity conservation and territorial sustainability.
