Carlos Ribeiro, President of the Landscape Laboratory, represented Guimarães, as European Green Capital 2026, at the “EU-Japan Dialogue: Cities for a Climate-Neutral and Resilient Future”, held in Tokyo on 5 October.
At the invitation of the European Union Delegation to Japan, and within the framework of the EU–Japan Green Alliance, the event brought together representatives from European and Japanese cities to share experiences and explore opportunities for collaboration in the transition to climate neutrality and in strengthening resilience to climate change.
Carlos Ribeiro took part in the technical session dedicated to delivering local climate action, focusing on how cities can translate their climate targets into concrete measures to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.
The programme also included a dialogue between municipal representatives from Turku, Viterbo, Tallinn, Toyama, Saitama and Sado, focusing on urban sustainability practices and challenges, as well as the role of international cooperation.
Guimarães’ participation in this meeting as European Green Capital 2026 reaffirms the city’s commitment to translating scientific knowledge, innovation and international partnerships into concrete action at local level.
