Guimarães contributes to innovative urban management solutions in the Space4Cities project

9The Municipality of Guimarães, through the Landscape Laboratory, took part in the end-of-phase meeting of the European project Space4Cities, held from September 2 to 4 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Also present were Forum Virium Helsinki (City of Helsinki Innovation Company), Municipality of Amsterdam (Netherlands), District09 (City of Ghent, Belgium), the Regional Development Fund of Attica – Innovation Attica (Athens, Greece), and the international network Open & Agile Smart Cities (Belgium).

Space4Cities is based on a pre-commercial procurement approach, aimed at developing innovative and replicable solutions using satellite data. The goal is to foster more effective and dynamic urban management, with impact in areas such as sustainable mobility, urban planning, and climate resilience.

Guimarães was represented by Francisco Carvalho, General Coordinator for Research and Innovation at the Landscape Laboratory, and Susana Costa, Operations and Project Management Coordinator, who followed the presentation of the first-phase results, ensuring that the solutions developed by suppliers address the needs of the project partners.

In addition to validating the proposed solutions, the Landscape Laboratory used the occasion to reinforce the sharing of experience in linking local governance, climate transition, and technological innovation, consolidating Guimarães as a pilot case for future phases of the Space4Cities project.

The meeting thus contributed with both technical and strategic feedback, strengthening the Municipality’s vision in the fields of sustainable mobility, urban planning, and climate resilience.
