Landscape Laboratory’s 10th Anniversary Book Recognised at the Graphis Design Awards

The commemorative publication marking the Landscape Laboratory’s 10th anniversary received a Silver Award at the 2027 Graphis Design Awards. Revista Guimarães 26, the official publication of Guimarães 2026 – European Green Capital, was also recognised.

The book Laboratório da Paisagem – 10 Anos · 10 Years, published by the Landscape Laboratory to mark the institution’s first decade of activity, has received a Silver Award at the 2027 Graphis Design Awards, one of the most renowned international awards in communication design.

The publication, designed by Guimarães-based studio Design by OOF, was recognised alongside Revista Guimarães 26, the official publication of Guimarães 2026 – European Green Capital, which also received a Silver Award.

The commemorative book marking the Landscape Laboratory’s 10th anniversary traces the institution’s history, the work carried out during its first decade and its vision for the future. It also features two photographic chapters dedicated to the landscape of the municipality of Guimarães.

The editorial concept itself was designed to reflect the sustainability principles underpinning the Landscape Laboratory’s work. The compact format and the use of just two colours in the text layout – green for Portuguese and brown for English – were deliberate choices aimed at reducing material consumption while also expressing the institution’s values through graphic design.

This distinction is particularly significant for the Landscape Laboratory, as it marks the second time one of the institution’s publications has been recognised by Graphis. In 2022, the book Lagoas e Charcas do Rio Ave (Lagoons and Ponds of the River Ave) also received this international award.

Revista Guimarães 26, which accompanies the official programme of Guimarães 2026 – European Green Capital, was also recognised for its editorial approach and sustainable design. The publication was printed on textured paper sourced from sustainably managed forests and produced in a format designed to maximise material efficiency.

For Cláudio Rodrigues, founder and creative director of Design by OOF, the awards represent “recognition of an approach to work that we believe in: considering the purpose and impact of each design project without compromising on graphic rigour”. He also highlighted the relationship of trust established with clients in Guimarães.

The Graphis Design Awards have been presented annually in New York since 1952, recognising outstanding work in communication design, photography, illustration and advertising. They are now an internationally recognised benchmark in the industry.

Recognition for the 10th-anniversary book further reinforces the Landscape Laboratory’s commitment to communicating and sharing the knowledge generated through its work, bringing together scientific, environmental and territorial content with an editorial approach aligned with the sustainability principles that guide the institution.
