The first edition of the Spring Race, part of the Spring Festival 2025 programme, will be held on 22 and 23 March in Guimarães.
Organised by Laboratório da Paisagem with the support of the municipality, this initiative combines sport, nature and sustainability, highlighting the city’s commitment to ecological practices and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
With three disciplines – Athletics (10 km), Mini Run/Walk (5 km) and Run Kids (400 m and 800 m) – the event promises to involve all age groups and levels of fitness, on a route that makes the most of Guimarães’ unique natural landscapes.
The Spring Run is a celebration of the arrival of the most vibrant season of the year, reinforcing the role of sport and biodiversity in building healthier and more environmentally conscious communities.
Pre-race activities: Climb to Penha along the Biodiversity Route
As a warm-up for the race, on 22 March there will be a climb up Penha, as part of the Biodiversity Route. This activity is divided into two types: the Vertical Challenge (4 km, 400 D+), aimed at mountain sports enthusiasts, and the Interpretive Walk (3.5 km), led by technicians from the Landscape Laboratory, which will highlight the natural and cultural wealth of the region.
Commitment to 2026: Guimarães on its way to becoming European Green Capital
With the nomination of Guimarães as European Green Capital 2026, the Spring Race stands out as an emblematic action in the city’s sustainable strategy. According to Laboratório da Paisagem, the event not only promotes healthy habits, but also reinforces the pillars of biodiversity and carbon neutrality, central themes for the future of the region.
