Background

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming various sectors of society, including education and environmental management. In the current context of climate change and environmental degradation, AI offers new opportunities to improve environmental education, making it more effective, accessible and personalised. This international meeting, taking place from 27 February to 1 March 2025, aims to explore the intersections between AI and environmental education, discussing how emerging technologies can be used to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.

The event will bring together AI experts, environmentalists, educators, researchers and students to share knowledge, experiences and best practices. Through talks and interactive sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in AI applied to environmental education, discuss ethical and practical challenges, and learn about projects aimed at a more sustainable future.

To explore the potential of AI in environmental education

Promote understanding of how AI can be integrated into pedagogical strategies to improve environmental education, making it more interactive, personalised and accessible.

1. Oral communications
1.1 Submission of the paper abstract
– Paper abstracts must be submitted via the following link: https://forms.gle/H8iUtGqRNVxeC87L9, in Portuguese or English.
– The abstract must not exceed 2000 characters, including spaces;
– The abstract should contain a reference to the topic, objectives, methodology used and conclusions;
– Abstracts must be submitted by 12 February 2025;
– Validation of the abstracts will be communicated by email by 19 February 2025;

1.2 Submission of the full article
– The submission of the full paper (in Portuguese or English), for later publication in the proceedings of the event, must be in accordance with the template and formatting defined by the EIEA organising committee, which will be sent after the abstract has been accepted.
– Full papers must be submitted by 30 April, otherwise they will not be included in the event’s proceedings.

2. Posters
2.1 Submission of the poster abstract

– The validation of the poster will be communicated by email by 19 February 2025;

2.2 Poster presentation
– The content of the poster must ALWAYS include an abstract in English if the poster is designed in Portuguese;
– The poster must contain a reference to the topic, objectives, methodology used, conclusions, author’s name, organisation and e-mail address;
– Size: 90 cm x 120 cm (A1);
– The poster should follow the model defined by the EIEA 2025, but the font and design are at the author’s discretion, as long as it is legible;
– The insertion of graphics and/or images is the sole responsibility of the author;
– Each participant must bring their printed poster and display it in the places set aside for this purpose;
– The poster must also be sent in Power-Point (PPT) or PDF format, for later publication in the event’s book of minutes, by 30 April, otherwise it will not be included in the event’s book of minutes.

Poster presentations: 5 minutes

Maximum number of submissions:
– Each author may only submit up to 2 papers individually or up to 3 in co-authorship.

A special student call is open for the submission of abstracts relevant to the theme of the meeting.
After analysis and decision by the scientific committee, 3 scholarships will be awarded, at the registration fee, for 3 oral communications.

Call – Showcase of tools incorporating AI applied to education

Applications until 31 January 2025

During the 2nd International Meeting on Environmental Education, an exhibition of AI-based products will be created to support education and/or environmental education.
Applications must be submitted by 31 January 2025 using the appropriate form: https://forms.gle/67feEnxP8cuS5CpUA

Applications will be analysed by the scientific committee and the event’s organising committee, and all applicants will receive a response by February 17.

Rules for participation:
– Once approved, companies/entities must guarantee their presence for the entire two days of the event (27 and 28 February).
– Set-up can preferably take place all day on 26 February or 27 February in the morning from 7.30am, with the event kicking off at 9.00am.
– Event timetable: 9am – 6pm
– The organising committee will provide lunch for a maximum of 2 people per stand.
– Participation by companies/ organisations does not imply any payment.
– The organising committee does not cover travel costs or transport of materials.
– An area of 2m x 2m will be provided, in an enclosed space, with a table and chair and access to electricity.
– All decoration of the space is the sole responsibility of the company/entity.
– Set-up and dismantling must take place outside of event hours and is the responsibility of the company/entity.
– The company/entity is entirely responsible for monitoring the material on the stand.
– During event hours, stand staff must provide the necessary clarification to participants.
– Tools that can be tried out by participants will be favoured.

Commitment to a low carbon event
Aware of the Municipality of Guimarães’ commitment to achieving Climate Neutrality 2030, Laboratório da Paisagem is organising the International Environmental Education Meeting as a low carbon event.

In order to fulfil these objectives, the following measures have been adopted:

– Vegetarian, seasonal and local menu at the event, to reduce the carbon footprint;
– Opting for locally produced, handmade gifts from post-production textile waste or from products of natural origin;
– Reducing printing and waste production at the event and focusing on reusing, repurposing and recycling.
