BluePoint: Report Brings Together Knowledge on Marine Plastic Pollution and Pathways to Sustainability

The Landscape Laboratory has developed and published the technical and scientific report “Marine Plastic Pollution and Pathways to Sustainability” as part of the European BluePoint project. The document brings together knowledge on the impacts of plastic on aquatic ecosystems and supports the development of more sustainable solutions.

Plastic pollution is one of today’s major environmental challenges, with consequences for marine biodiversity, human health and economic activities. Addressing this problem requires a collective response that combines waste prevention and reduction with research, innovation and resource recovery.

To contribute to this effort, the Landscape Laboratory has developed and published the report “Marine Plastic Pollution and Pathways to Sustainability”, as part of the European BluePoint project. The document explores the impacts of plastic pollution from river and estuarine ecosystems to the oceans, contributing to a deeper understanding of this issue.

Through this publication, the Landscape Laboratory makes scientific knowledge available to support reflection and the development of solutions to the challenges posed by marine plastic pollution. The report also aims to inspire collective action, helping translate knowledge into progress towards a more sustainable future.

A joint response for the Atlantic region

Funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, BluePoint brings together 13 partners from Portugal, Spain, France and Ireland. The project promotes cooperation, innovation, entrepreneurship and internationalisation, seeking to develop the marine plastic value chain and explore business opportunities associated with its recovery and valorisation.

The aim is to establish a replicable circular economy model for the Atlantic region that helps reduce the environmental impact of plastic in the oceans while creating new economic opportunities and driving the transition towards a Blue Circular Economy.
