From September 16 to 18, Guimarães welcomed representatives from the cities of Debrecen (Hungary), L’Aquila (Italy), and Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic), as part of the City-to-City Learning Programme, integrated in the NetZeroCities project and funded by the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
Over three days, the delegations had the opportunity to closely explore the strategies, projects, and best practices that place Guimarães at the forefront of the climate and environmental transition. The program included working sessions and study visits to flagship projects such as the Laboratório da Paisagem, Bairro C, the Gymnastics Academy, and retention basins, as well as initiatives related to circular economy, green areas, biodiversity, and climate change adaptation.
In addition to the visits, the meeting fostered joint reflection on the next steps of the climate transition, with a particular focus on engaging local stakeholders and building a collective strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.
Guimarães’ participation in this programme reinforces its role as a Mission City and future European Green Capital 2026, highlighting the municipality and the Laboratório da Paisagem as key actors in promoting innovative solutions for a more sustainable, resilient, and citizen-driven territory.
