In the main panel of the event, Guimarães joined the cities of Bristol (UK) and Bologna (Italy) to share experiences related to the implementation of Climate City Contracts.
The Municipality of Guimarães is taking part in the annual conference of the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, held in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania and European Green Capital 2025, on May 7 and 8.
During the opening plenary session, led by the Mayor of Vilnius and Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General for Environment at the European Commission, discussions focused on the mission’s climate goals and the importance of involving cities and communities in reaching climate neutrality by 2030. The session also stressed the need for cross-sector collaboration, highlighting the roles of both the private sector and local communities.
In the event’s main panel, Guimarães joined Bristol and Bologna to present its experience in implementing Climate City Contracts. The presentation included a reference to the ongoing work across multiple sectors of society, especially the promotion of the City Climate Pact, a local initiative aimed at strengthening collective commitment to climate action.
Guimarães’ participation is part of its international strategy to engage in European sustainability networks and programmes, promoting the exchange of best practices and reinforcing cooperation among cities.
