As part of the URBACT BiodiverCity project, European partners had the opportunity to visit Guimarães last week and learn about some of the Landscape Laboratory’s projects.
On the first day, Tuesday, October 22, we also had the sharing of experts on nature-based solutions, namely Professor Joaquim Jesus and Frederico Meireles, from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, promoting valuable discussions. The day also included the intervention of some members of the Local Action Group, including private entities such as Leroy Merlin from Guimarães.
In the following two days, we visited places like the green roof of Camões Park, the Couros Zone, Monte Latito, City Park, Gymnastics Academy and Penha Mountain, where we showed how we managed to integrate urban development with the protection and promotion of biodiversity. BiodiverCity partners also visited the leisure park area of Taipas and got to know the work of the local Green Brigade up close.
It should be noted that, in addition to the Landscape Laboratory, the network also includes nine cities from eight different countries, including Dunaújváros, Vratsa, Town Veszprém, Poljcane, Cieza, Siena, Limerick City & County Council, Hertogenbosch, and Sarajevo.
